Boredom is the state of mind which makes a person away from his/her true self.
This is a very deep meaning of boredom.
Further, if you want a generic meaning, then it is the state of being bored.
In other words, there is a huge difference in what you want to do and the reality you are in.
Moreover, it is the inability to accept the reality as it is.

What causes Boredom?
Boredom is caused due to the inability to accept the present moment as it is.
That is, with out any self-proclaimed beliefs or tags, just being in the present scene as it is.
99% of the people do not know how to live consciously aware.
That is, they just live in the reaction mode. And their entire life goes by, just like that.
Now, what is the harm in living like that?
In short, It is like giving your power to design your life, to others.
Would you like that?
Obviously No! right?
And due to this lower frequency living, we end up tagging situations and places based on prior experience of the past.
Further, it is funny when people say about past being such wonderful and now things are not that exciting like the past.
That is, these people have defined Happiness and sadness in their own self proclaimed ways, which is the main cause of all the sadness and boredom.
In other words, their mind has defined certain situations or moments to be boring.
For instance; a person named ‘X’ believes being at home, working, studying is all boring. And boozing, clubbing, time with friends are happiness.
Further, due to this definition ‘X’ is unable to be at home alone for long, as he cannot handle the boredom it brings.
So, to sum it up, it is your own beliefs and thoughts that causes boredom. Else there is nothing called as boredom.
How can I overcome Boredom?
Overcoming boredom becomes easy when we understand the causes.
So now that we have understood, it is our own thinking and beliefs that causes boredom, we can overcome it.
First of all, getting bored is another sign of lack of observation.
Like, a child observes things as it is, and is fascinated with it as he is seeing it for the first time.
Then we learn its name and our mind gives it a tag. For instance, lets take an example of a fan.
That is, a child observes it carefully and is very fascinated by the way it functions.
Now, when was the last time you observed a fan with such fascination.
Can’t remember right!
That is, the time our mind tagged it, we stopped observing it.
In Short, whatever our mind has tagged, it has claimed to know it thoroughly.
And due to this, mind doesn’t observe it at all.
Have you ever thought, why do you feel so good travelling or checking out new places?
It is because, the child inside you starts to live again, because mind doesn’t have realistic or practical information of the new places.
So it keenly observes the places as it is.
In simple words, if we learn to train our mind to un-tag things, then the child inside us can live happily even in a closed room.
Like I always mentioned in my articles, it is just the way of living.
That is, you can live life as if you know everything or you can live in the unknown.
Living in the unknown is the key to overcome Boredom.
And now, you may wonder, how to practically implement it?
Firstly, whenever you are bored or alone in a place, start to observe things around as it is.
That is, observe as if you do not know what it is called.
Just observe, your mind might interfere stating it is a fan, wardrobe, etc.
But, you tell your mind that you do not know what it is.
And, trust me, this is way too powerful than you can imagine.
