Overthinking is to think about something or someone too much or for too long. And in the given meaning, we get the gist of why to stop overthinking and relax.

Because anything done too much is always harmful.

Moreover, Out of all the creatures in this world only we as humans have the ability to think rationally. In other words, to think with logic.

But very often we miscalculate the duration of using this powerful tool of thinking.

And Thinking, in other hand, is very essential for the development of this civilization.

Further, We have come a long way with tremendous improvement in life style because of the technologies that we built.

Moreover, all this have been possible just because of the ability to think.

To be precise, every human being is not contributing in this development. Are we?

However, the tool that we all have got is the same. And the problem with many of us is not knowing the cap where we need to limit the thinking habit.

Reasons, why we overthink?:

Stop Overthinking

There is always a way of doing things. And if done in the right way, will give you fruitful results. And if the same is done otherwise, even the result will be vice versa.

In the same manner, there is a right way of thinking which will give you the desired results.

Firstly, many would be shocked with what is being said above- ‘The right of thinking’.

Yes! Absolutely!!

But has anybody taught us the right way of thinking?

Not knowing this is one of the fundamental reasons why we overthink.

Moreover, we have to understand that every thought is an energy sent out to the universe. And with every thought either we procure energy or we lose energy.

This is the reason we see many old folks with exponential energy. Because energy has nothing to do with the age, it is just how you conserve it.

Since nobody has taught us how to think, we get carried away with any thought that comes our way.

For instance, “Alex was working on his laptop and suddenly smells chocolate pie being prepared in the neighborhood, and this fragrance brought old memories of how he used to spend his summer vacation evenings eating chocolate pie with his grandmother. And how his grandmother used to tell him stories of the Prince and Princess. Suddenly, he remembers the demise of his grand mom. And, Now he feels the pain and starts to miss his sister who is staying far away from him.”

Did you observe,in the above example, how Alex started missing his sister. It all started with the fragrance of a Pie.

Was all those thoughts necessary?

Stop Overthinking- Understanding the right way of thinking: 

The Right way of Thinking

Now, many would argue that this is very natural to happen with anybody.

But that is where we are wrong, to believe that it’s natural.

It is just a habit, and we are not taught with the right way of thinking.

That is to say, habits can be changed and this is what we should do.

Since we are not taught about the right way of thinking, we just get carried away with any thing that strikes us through our 5 senses.

Before we proceed, on how to stop overthinking, let us understand if there are any  benefits doing so.

Stop Overthinking- Is there any benefit of overthinking?

Every thought is a vibration or an energy that we spend. And when we overthink, we actually  waste that energy.

And this is the reason why we feel tired or exhausted during the travel or after a lot of thinking.

Now let us ask our-self, is there any benefit in wasting energy?

We have an obvious answer, right!

Then why do we still overthink?

In other words, there might be some benefit because of which we overthink.

Please Note: we have to understand the root cause before we come up with a practical solution.

One of the major reasons, that has come up in my questioning research is ‘Laziness’ or ‘Lethargy’.

We never overthink when our physical body is in action. Do we?

That is to say, our body’s tendency of enjoying laziness or lethargy is what makes us overthink.

And, that means our body enjoys laziness which is a temporary happiness. The topic of temporary happiness can be clearly understood from our blog: Thinking and not living in the moment.

How to Stop overthinking and relax?:

If you have read the complete topic till here, then there is a possibility that you might have already come up with a solution.

But wait, before you come to any conclusion.

Many of us, came to this conclusion that we have to break the body’s tendency of laziness or lethargy through yoga or exercise.

But, you are partially right and that too in a small proportion.

Firstly, as per research, it is proven that there is no possible way that a brain can generate a new idea on its own.

But it has the ability to think rationally, analyze and modify a particular idea that it gets.

So where does those initial ideas come from?

This is a completely different topic that we will discuss in a separate blog.

For now, let us call it intuition.

Whenever an idea strikes or something strikes our senses, we have to raise our awareness of the corresponding thoughts that accompany our core thought. Like in the above mentioned example of the fragrance of chocolate pie striking Alex’s sense of smell.

Let’s understand how to stop overthinking in steps:

Steps to stop overthinking are  

1. Try and break the lazy tendency of the body by working out or yoga, etc.
2. Raise your awareness by starting to live being in the moment.(How?)
3. Start building this habit of being aware of your thoughts and cut the chain of  corresponding thoughts with the power of Acceptance.

To clarify, it is OK to have negative thoughts. We all are human beings and we cannot control our thoughts. But one thing that we all can do is be more aware of what our thoughts are.

And, let us stop giving energy to negative thoughts and that means to stop overthinking. With this you will start to be in peace with your present. And your happiness will never be ever be compromised.
